Welcome to Episode 14 of the Be Ready Utah PrepCast, #BRUPrepCast, a monthly webcast featuring the 12 areas of emergency preparedness.
This episode features Be Ready Utah manager Wade Mathews and Eleanor Divver, Radon Coordinator with the Utah Department of Environmental Quality.
Discussion topic:
National Radon Action Month: www.Radon.Utah.gov
Radon is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, radioactive gas from decaying uranium in the soil. It can invade our homes though cracks in our foundations. One in five homes in Utah have levels that need to be mitigated. In high enough concentrations, it can cause lung cancer.
The only way to know if you have dangerous levels of radon in your home is to test for it. The best time to test for radon is during the winter months when the ground is frozen, we are inside more, and doors and windows are closed more often. Order one now. To order a radon test kit, go to www.Radon.Utah.gov for more information. There is also a link to find approved contractors who can help you if high levels of radon are found in your home.
