Red Skin Syndrome is an iatrogenic condition that comes from the abuse and overprescription of topical steroids to patients. Most topical steroids should only be prescribed between 2-4 weeks maximum.
When a rash occurs or you suddenly have eczema appear, try to first find what is causing the problem. Ask your doctor to be swabbed for bacteria (if you do have a bacterial infection, antibiotics can be given to clear it), swabbed for fungus (if you have a fungal infection, anti-fungals can be given to you to clear it), and ask to be allergy tested (both blood and patch testing -- one that has been recommended is the I95 and E95 panel).
Doing these things first can save you from becoming a victim of Red Skin Syndrome (RSS). Many doctors still don't believe this is a real condition and keep prescribing topical steroids for long periods of time, deeming our RSS as 'severe eczema'.
RSS signs: Rash that spreads, burning skin, adrenal fatigue, insomnia, severe itch, hyper-sensitivity to foods, fabrics, and chemicals, your topical steroid isn't working as well as it used to...
