Beat Assailant, whose real name is Adam Turner, born in 1977 in Miami, Florida, is an American rapper. Very active in the underground world of hip-hop music, particularly jazz rap, he notably rapped on the title Never Lose by Deluxe. In the early 2000s, Turner visited Paris to explore the local hip-hop scene and decided to establish himself in France.
Turner was born in Miami, Florida and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. In 2001, he traveled through Paris, France to explore the local hip-hop scene and met musician Danny Wild, who helped him produce his first album. Beat Assailant's first album, titled Hard Twelve, was released on June 8, 2004. The album contains twelve tracks and introduces the rapper to the general public with a mixture of funk, soul, rock and electro in a traditional urban style. After the album's release, Turner and his associates performed alongside established rappers and artists in the hip-hop scene such as Kanye West and DJ Premier.
After a few years of touring, he returned to the United States and then to the hip-hop scene in February 2008 with a second album, Imperial Pressure. Released on February 11, the album features the single Better Than Us and pushes the boundaries of hip-hop with a mix of jazz, funk, soul, rock, world music, and some elements of electro. Better Than Us is composed featuring José Reis Fontao on vocals, singer of Stuck in the Sound, and Mani Hoffman of Supermen Lovers. Live, he plays with a saxophonist, a trumpeter, and a pianist, among others, accompanied by the rapper. The Discordance site favorably welcomes the album. His third album, Rhyme Space Continuum, was praised for its "acrobatic vocals".
