STORYLINE:
The French contingent of NATO's Macedonian operation, Essential Harvest, readied themselves and their equipment for deployment from Toulon Naval base in France on Tuesday.
Around 400 members of the French Foreign Legion are expected to leave on Wednesday or Thursday aboard the amphibious ship, the Siroco.
Of the 400 men and women about 70 percent are not French.
160 light armoured vehicles are expected to be shipped to Macedonia.
The Siroco and another ship the L'Orang will take the men and the vehicles first to Greece.
The ships will take about four days to reach Thesolonika, in Greece.
They are awaiting a final decision by NATO before they leave.
French soldiers from Nimes will join the Foreign Legion force on Wednesday morning.
