A preliminary hearing for the National City teacher accused of having inappropriate relationships with two of her students began Tuesday morning.
As the hearing started, 34-year-old Jacqueline Ma, dressed in a jail jumpsuit, began crying and wiping her eyes.
Deputy District Attorney Drew Hart asked the media and the public not be allowed in the courtroom during testimony from one of the alleged victims, a 13-year-old boy.
"The people believe by closing this courtroom we can further protect the identity of this victim from any harassment he might receive," said Hart.
"This boy has already been singled out by certain people suspected of being the one involved in this case," he added.
The defense did not object. The judge agreed to close the hearing during the child's testimony.
