Incendio’s “Eyes of the World” live at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center in Oxnard CA on Sunday May 7, 2017 . This track is NOW AVAILABLE on Spotify and all streaming services, as well as on youtube and here on social media. This version has been remixed (way better drums and percussion mix) and mastered. The video was re-edited from the original video elements and then remastered for best resolution.
This was recorded and filmed at the Oxnard Performing Arts & Convention Center. I think we had played this tune twice live up to this point, and then briefly in rehearsal. We were blessed to have as guests Al Velasquez on percussion and Carey Frank on keyboards. Al has done a few gigs with us and he's simply great, wonderful to work with.
We have known Carey for a few years, primarily from working with our friends in Rumproller (along with great musicians, guitarist James Achor, drummer Kevin Stevens, and vocalist/saxophonist Woody Mankowski) during several years at the late great Indian Wells Art Festival. He and they would occasionally sit in with us, and it was always a blast. So it seemed natural to invite Carey to a few shows. Hammond B3 is one of my favorite instruments, so we always ask him to play that in addition to piano and electric piano. I'm not sure we even got to rehearse this with him. At the end, the swirling solos together, was just a spur-of-the-moment thing, to solo together. Seemed appropriate and for us, caught a very inspiring improvised moment on audio and video. Since then he's been busy playing with everyone from Tedeschi-Trucks to Social Distortion to even Bruce Springsteen. As I write this, he's out with Veronica Swift soon on tour. Go man go! I hope we can jam again soon.
And yes, Liza and I love the Dead, particularly the songwriting. There are some truly classic songs they added to the American songbook. We appreciate that Jim and Tim took a leaper on this one and played so beautifully. This one just lent itself to a jazz samba vibe. This was filmed by our longtime friends and videographers, Tom and Marie Bartolac. I believe it was recorded in-house - sorry, can't remember name of the recording engineer at the venue.
Incendio is Jim Stubblefield - guitar; JP Durand - guitar, guitar synth; Liza Carbe - bass; Tim Curle - drums. #gratefuldead #jamband #spanishguitar #hammondb3
