There are lots of cast iron dutch ovens on the market but is one better than the other? Let's take a look at four that I own and use regularly and you can decide for yourself. Each one comes with its own set of pros and cons. They are all truly the workhorse of the kitchen. I use mine to fry bacon, bake bread, slow roast meats and simmer soups. A good dutch oven is essential!
And note: I know this is not every brand. I own four dutch ovens already and that's plenty. I could never have them all! Some brands not reviewed here that are also very popular include Le Cruset and Lodge.

Lid retains more moisture than some dutch ovens
Easy to clean and heats evenly
Cons: Cost. Depending on where you get yours they can range between $200-$300 when not on sale. I got mine on Food52 for $97

Pros: Heirloom, solid construction that will last generations
Retains heat well and has moisture bands in the lid to drip steam back on food
Cons: It feels heavier than my other dutch ovens, even though it's not
May require a bit of extra seasoning at first
Cost may be an issue at $285
#3 Crofton dutch oven/braiser: Check Ebay, sold at Aldi for about $30
Weight: 14 pounds
Enamel over cast iron
Manufacturing location: Unknown, likely China
Pros: Low and wide for spreading out ingredients
Retains moisture well and heats evenly
Cons: Aldi stores sold them on special and they aren't
available elsewhere. Check Ebay.

Pros: Affordable and easy to find
Sold at most Home Goods, Amazon, Target
Cons: Interior enamel wears down significantly over time and stains
Not an heirloom piece , cost between $100 and $120
