A true animal lover, Couillard volunteered with veterinarians in rural Central America and worked at an animal hospital during her undergrad. After graduation she interned at the Indianapolis Zoo, assisted with tracking rehabilitated red-tailed hawks and spent a summer in Panama working with howler monkey rehabilitation and tropical ecology conservation.
