STORYLINE
Shops and markets were closed in Karachi on Thursday after Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), one of the leading parties in Pakistan, announced a day of mourning for what they say is the targeted killing of party supporters.
According to police and MQM, four MQM supporters were kidnapped from a public bus by unknown gunmen on Wednesday.
The bodies of three of them, allegedly bearing signs of torture, were found on Wednesday morning in the Malir area of the city.
One of the men is said to be in a hospital in a critical condition.
It is not clear who was behind this attack.
On Wednesday, mourners carried bodies of the victims of shooting through Karachi streets.
Later in the day, they staged a sit-in protest outside the official residence of Sindh's Chief Minister, demanding the arrest of the crime perpetrators.
The victims' bodies were placed on the ground in front of the official residence of the chief minister.
They were later taken to Jinnah Hospital morgue, where relatives were seen mourning the loss of their loved ones.
The MQM is the fourth largest party in the National Assembly and second in the Sindh Provincial Assembly.
Before the May elections, the MQM was partner of the country's ruling coalition, alongside the Pakistan People Party (PPP).
However, the party has since chosen to sit in opposition, including in the Sindh provincial assembly.
