Well, we learned this past week that the U.K. brand, Saga Cruises, is the first cruise line that will require all passengers to have a COVID-19 vaccine to sail. Will other cruise lines in the U.S. begin to do the same? We take a look at whether the COVID-19 vaccine will be required to cruise in our latest video! This is potentially huge cruise ship news!

------WILL CRUISE LINES REQUIRE A COVID-19 VACCINE?------
In this latest cruise update, we focus on the major cruise ship news from Saga Cruises. The line announced this past Wednesday that it will be requiring passengers to get a COVID-19 vaccination in order to board one of its cruise ships. This was the first time a cruise line publicly revealed that a COVID-19 vaccine would be required to cruise.
Along with this cruise update, Saga announced that it was pushing back its resumption of cruising. This is due to the fact that individuals will need to wait at least 14 days after receiving the second dose of the vaccine in order to allow for full immunity. Further, anyone who is exempt or chooses not to get the vaccine will NOT be allowed to cruise with the brand.
The cruise line acknowledges that other safety protocols, such as reduced capacity, social distancing, and face mask requirements, will still remain in effect even with this new mandate.
Plus, the cruise line will still be requiring COVID-19 testing prior to embarkation for at least May and June sailings.
------WILL A COVID-19 VACCINATION BE REQUIRED TO CRUISE ON MAJOR BRANDS? ------
So, with this cruise ship news, more cruisers have been wondering if U.S. based cruise lines will now require passengers to get the COVID-19 vaccine as well. This is a big cruise covid update.
Given this major cruise update, we evaluate some of the issues involved in having the major cruise lines considering covid vaccines to cruise. While we expected cruising to start sooner in 2021, we now know that many cruise lines are cancelled until late spring/early summer. This gives the cruise lines time to make the necessary changes to cruising as part of the CDC's Conditional Framework for Sailing. Of course, adding a COVID-19 vaccine requirement for cruising could further push back this time line.
Plus, as we see with Saga Cruises, the COVID-19 vaccine is not a cure-all for cruising and travel. In fact, many of the health measures already announced would still occur on cruise ships. So, would this turn-off some cruisers?
In this cruise update many have been asking about the crew! Right now, Saga Cruises will not be vaccinating the crew right away. Will the other cruise lines elect to vaccinate the crew first? Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings' CEO indicated a few weeks back in that latest cruise news update that the crew were “certainly” going to be vaccinated.
What about children and those who are not medically able to receive the vaccine? Right now, Saga Cruises is not letting anyone on the ship who has not been vaccinated, regardless of the reason. So, would the major cruise lines not require kids to get the covid vaccine to cruise?
Stay tuned for more on covid vaccines to cruise and cruise updates regarding the COVID-19 vaccine and cruising as new details emerge. Would you be willing to get vaccines for cruising?
