(2 Feb 2014) The Ukrainian opposition activist who was allegedly kidnapped and tortured for more than a week was allowed to leave a Kiev hospital on Sunday to receive treatment abroad.
Dmytro Bulatov went missing on January 22 and resurfaced a week later, heavily bruised and with part of an ear cut off.
According to Vitali Klitschko, the leader of the opposition Udar party, Bulatov will be flown to Latvia for treatment.
Police had sought Bulatov for questioning on suspicion of organising mass disorder, but prosecutors said he was free to go Sunday.
The incident, along with the beatings of other activists, one of whom died, raised fears that extra-judicial squads are being deployed to intimidate the protest movement.
