This Red Wattlebird (Anthochaera carunculata) wouldn't hold still for me. What was it doing upside down, like that? Was it catching insects, or gathering materials (such as twigs and webs) for a nest it might be working on, or something? Looking for seeds or berries? It was definitely up to something or other.
I am beginning to get better at bird identification, though I am no ornithologist. Also, having a good telescopic lens on my camera helps us to see the birds in detail up close.
The Red Wattlebirds certainly do appear to have the distinct fleshy reddish wattles on either side of their necks. I hope they will come back again, often, to feed on the nectar producing flowers and trees I have grown specially for them in my garden!
