This video is part of the Advanced Higher History course on Northern Britain, from the Iron Age to 1034. It is the first part of a short series of videos on the main Roman campaigns into Northern Britain in the 1st to 3rd centuries AD.
This video focuses on the invasion of the later 1st century AD during the reigns of the Flavian emperors, under the command of Governor Agricola. It begins by discussing our main contemporary source of information, Tacitus and his book on Agricola's exploits, 'The Agricola'. It then turns to give an overview of the chronology and events of Agricola's campaigns into the north before closing with a review of conflicting evidence which draws Tacitus' version of events into doubt.
The next video in this series will go into more depth on the events and (possible) achievements of Agricola's campaigns into the north, specifically the purported battle with the Caledones at Mons Graupius.
