How this works is very simple. The outer laminated surface is very slick and when the paint is wet, it does not adhere very well and rubs off easily. The area where the scratches are have raw wood exposed that are very soft and absorbs the paint filling in the scratches. The type of paint I used in this video is ordinary latex wall paint. I don't know if other types of paint would wipe off as easily as the latex does but just make sure to wipe it off before it dries while it's still wet and fresh.
