Carrying the Gracie family comes with great responsibility and pressure, especially if you are a successor of the generation that apart from succeeding in Jiu-Jitsu, also conquered the world of freestyle fighting. With the entire world watching your every move, fighters like Kron Gracie not only need to mimic the same success, but be better and it’s in these high expectations that we can find the reason why Gracie’s second-generation of freestyle fighters failed.
The most recent example of this Gracie curse is Kron, the son of the legendary grappler and MMA pioneer Rickson Gracie who was supposed to be the next Gracie prodigy to spread the power of BJJ in modern times, and of course, showcase dominance in cage fighting.
At UFC 288, Kron was in for another disappointing performance against Charles Jourdain and this particular match is a perfect example of why the one-dimensional approach does not work in MMA anymore, at least on the top level.
