Pilots of a cargo plane had to make an emergency landing late on Jan. 18, 2024, in South Florida due to an engine malfunction, according to multiple reports.
CBS Miami reports an Atlas Air flight landed safely at Miami International Airport (MIA) after experiencing an engine malfunction not long after takeoff.
The Boeing 747-8 aircraft, according to data from FlightAware, departed from MIA just after 10:30 p.m. with a destination in San Juan, Puerto Rico, only to land about 15 minutes later back at MIA.
"The crew followed all standard procedures and safely returned to MIA," Atlas Air reportedly told Reuters, adding the airline would conduct an inspection to find the cause of the engine malfunction.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue reportedly told CBS Miami no one was hurt during the flight or emergency landing and no one needed to be taken to the hospital.
