(3 Sep 2012) Three rare Indian white tigers were on public display on Monday at the Liberec Zoo in the Czech Republic.
The cubs, born in July to mother Surya Bara, only became viewable to the public recently.
Liberec Zoo is the only zoo in the country to have successfully bred and birthed white tigers.
But this has been the first time the zoo has been able to successfully bond the tigers with the mother, said Ivan Langr, a spokesperson for the zoo.
"We had to put together a new couple that last mated but unfortunately, after giving birth to triplets she wouldn't take care of them. But now, for the second try, as is normal in the wild, she managed to be successful with these triplets," he said.
White tigers are the result of both parents having a recessive gene for white coloration.
They are rare in the wild because they stand out in the jungle, hindering their efforts to catch prey.
Liberec Zoo plans to name the cubs officially at a ceremony soon. News service and for libel, privacy, compliance and third party rights applicable to their Territory.
