This video shows how to install a reusable heat shield blanket in your rocket, so that you can eliminate the need for recovery wadding.
The heat shields are made either from welding cloth, or from Nomex™. They are used to protect the nylon cloth parachute from the head of the ejection charge in the rocket, and to prevent holes from being burned into the canopy.
The size of the heat shield cloth that you need will depend on the diameter of the rocket tube. See the Apogee website for guidance when selecting a heat shield.
