January 6th is National Technology Day and in our print shop exhibit at the Sacramento History Museum, we like to discuss the history of letterpress printing. A lot has definitely changed since Johannes Gutenberg’s printing press in the 1450s.
In this video, Jared letterpress prints an image of a wooden common press, similar to the press that belonged to Gutenberg. This was printed in orange oil base ink using a 3x5 Kelsey Excelsior tabletop printing press.
