(3 Dec 2017) Thousands of protesters marched on the streets of Hong Kong on Sunday to protest against what they perceive as China's authoritarian rule.
Protesters also demanded the Secretary for Justice to step down for what they believe is an eroding of the rule of law.
More than 10 pro-democracy organisations took part in the protest, including the People's Power, the League of Social Democrats, Demosisto and the Civic Party.
Pro-democracy activist Joshua Wong, one of the organisers of the protest, vowed to continue "to fight in this long term battle", despite having to serve a jail sentence the following week.
Protesters demanded for judiciary and legislative independence and support for political activists as well as four disqualified pro-democracy lawmakers.
Earlier this year, the Chinese territory's Court of First Instance disqualified the four opposition lawmakers from office for having turned their oath-takings into apparent protests against Beijing, further entrenching the central government's hold over the body.
The four lawmakers are Nathan Law, Leung Kwok-hung, Lau Siu-lai and Edward Yiu.
