Early homo species used to live in the forests but in the search of better food and resources. They moved towards the African savannahs where they had to adopt to the new environment and needed better endurance for hunting. In a new study scientists looked at various fossils spanning roughly four million years in time and have found that 1.5 Million years ago our ancestors went through a tall and skinny phase.
Due to their hunt in African savannahs they become tall and slender with wide shoulders. They grew 10cm taller without gaining extra weight. Thin body helped in stalking animals for hours in heat without loosing too much water in form of sweat and also gave them an advantage during the hunt. But as homo species migrated to colder regions their body gained more fat, around 10-15 kg.
