Hey there, music lovers! Did you know the popular "Shiner Song" was originally called the "Praha Polka"? Its origins, as a folk song extol the virtues of the beautiful city of Prague. When Czech immigrants came to the United States they brought along the music that reminded them of their homeland, including this song. In Nebraska, the Czech immigrants named one of their towns after their beloved hometown- Prague. (Although the pronunciation by other Nebraskans evolved over time). In Texas, the Czechs renamed the melody and altered the lyrics for their new home of Shiner. The lyrics extol the virtues of the beer made at the Spoetzel Brewery as well! (Where the Alex Meixner Band will be performing on Saturday April 27, 2024!)
So, as we celebrate Texas History Month, I thought I'd share this vibrant tune with you all. Grab your favorite beverage, hit play, and let's get ready to tap our toes!
