Deena janā vana shree rāma is a Divya Nāma Sankīrtana (DNS) of Saint Tyāgarāja in the rāga Bhūpālam set to chāpu tāla.
This is an excerpt from an undated DNS programme of All India Radio, produced by Dr. M Balamuralikrishna (BMK).
To ward off the extraordinary perils which mankind is prone to - may be the visitations from the demons, may be from the human malefactors-and to preserve the socio-ethical order, Lord Vishnu, whose duty it is to preserve this world, often incarnates Himself. Though such incarnations are popularly considered to be ten, there is no limit to their number. Nor are there any restrictions regarding the time and place of their appearance. Whenever dharma declines and adharma prospers, He bodies forth Himself to restore the balance in the world.
Saint Tyagaraja describes the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu as the manifested forms of Lord Sri Rama Himself.
Tyagaraja’s Rama is not only an incarnation of Vishnu, He is the all-pervading Self, both manifested and unmanifested. Not merely looking at Rama as his favourite deity, Tyagaraja looked at Rama as the very entity which the Upanishads address as Brahman. That was the manner of worship and devotion that Tyagaraja possessed.
Let’s listen to and enjoy the music, learn something new, and discuss our reflections with others.
It is to finally facilitate the process of music for posterity by sharing and listening with the younger generation.
