Interesting tuning.
Good for Jazz, Punk Rock, finger picking open strings and nicely voiced chords, open strings, drone strings, generally all-round useful tuning.
I'd venture to say it's a more useful tuning than Robert Fripps 'new standard tuning'.
I like it because it is similar in spacial arrangement to regular tuning; the third and second strings are smaller intervals than all the rest, just like in standard, but this time it's a major 2nd, not a major 3rd.
There is a perfect 5th between strings 6-5 and 5-4, a perfect 4th between 4-3, and another perfect 4th between 2-1. It is not too much of a mental effort to learn how to play scales and arpeggios in this tuning, epecially if you use as a set strings 4n3, and 2n1 - still in 4ths like normal. The major 2nd interval is good to sweep across and then hammer on (the 2nd string) for quick scale elements. And if you are a cellist, you would likely find playing scales on the thick strings very easy. You might even like to bow them!
