The video begins in the Knockalla Hills above beautiful Ballymastoker Bay, which is located on the western shore of lough Swilly, in County Donegal. The beach below is called Knockalla Beach.
A lot of work goes into these videos. You can now buy me a pint as a means of appreciation for my work on Naked Ireland, no obligation, obviously - only if you can afford it... I appreciate it. Cheers.

The beach has a good quality camp site close by so bear that in mind as an option if you’re planning a trip here, particularly if you’re planning a family holiday. And, as always in these Irish beaches, these dunned areas along the shore are important wildlife habitats and also have many specific plant species.
Idealy you’d want to be filming a beauty spot like this in the height of summer when everything looks better, but this place is so stunning, it looks incredible at any time of year. In fact this footage was taken in December. The big advantage here is that the place is practically deserted. And it’s so amazing to have a place like this to yourself. This is the case when you visit Donegal’s amazing beaches off season.
The beach has blue flag status and was once voted the second-best beach in the world by readers of the British Observer Magazine. It stretches for 2kms from Portsalon down to the Knockalla hills where we first viewed it. It’s sometimes called Portsalon beach for that reason. The landmass on the other side of the water is the Inishowen peninsula.
