How to store your matcha properly—because if you’re spending money on matcha, you don’t want it to go to waste!

Always keep it out of sunlight and avoid glass jars because the exposure to sunlight degrades the quality and colour of your matcha (not to mention flavour)!

If you’ve downloaded my free matcha e-book then you already know how meticulous the growing process is and how much sun exposure is controlled in that process. So, by exposing your matcha to light, you’re negating all the work that went into cultivating fine Japanese matcha 😟

For this reason, when I see a brand selling matcha in a glass jar, I don’t expect a quality product. Any matcha purveyor that understands the art of matcha would not risk their product quality like that.

And finally, I don’t really purchase bulk amounts of matcha because with time, your matcha will lose its colour and flavour. This is why matcha is often sold in smaller batches. I recommend buying as you go, and if you’re not working quickly through your matcha, consider storing in the fridge or freezer.
