Skeppargatan is a street in Stockholm's inner city that stretches from Strandvägen up to Valhallavägen on Östermalm and continues to Kallskärsgatan on Gärdet. Vehicle traffic is not possible over Valhallavägen.
Skeppargatan is one of the oldest streets in Ladugårdslandet, formerly called Östermalm. The name Skiepparegatan already existed in the 1640s and there also lived two skippers, Anders Larsson and Lars Persson, in what is today the Vildsvinet quarter. The upper part of the street was sometimes called Högbåtsmansgatan after the high boatmen in the 17th century. At this time, Ladugårdslandsviken and Nybroviken were a significant port and it was natural that the southern part of Ladugårdslandet got a nautical touch, something that is also reflected in Styrmansgatan 200 meters further east and neighborhood names like Havsfrun, Havssvalget, Sjömannen and Matrosen.
