As a result, there is an urgent unmet need for greater security, convenience, and ease-of-use in digital identity for organizations and the persons that represent them in either official or functional roles. Specifically, advances are needed in the fields of strong authentication, identity verification, and proof of data authenticity.

Through the creation of the verifiable Legal Entity Identifier (vLEI), GLEIF has created a universal system of organizational identity that answers this need. The vLEI enables instant and automated business verification for all legal entities and their official representatives.

The vLEI leverages the Key Event Receipt Infrastructure (KERI) protocol to adopt a ‘network of networks’ approach that enables seamless and secure interoperability with all technology models, including blockchain, cloud services, and APIs.
