Kazakhstan's president has ordered his forces to open fire on protesters without warning, amid the worst street demonstrations since the country's independence. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has rejected calls for talks. Calling them "terrorists" and "armed bandits", he has vowed to "destroy" the thousands whom have attacked the financial capital Almaty. The energy-rich nation is seeing its biggest crisis in decades, after announcing a near-doubling of prices for liquefied petroleum gas. Dozens have been killed, and more than a thousand people have been wounded in the unrest.
