This video works on trunk righting. Trunk righting is the ability to bring your body upright when you begin to move outside of midline. It is an essential skill for learning to sit up, learning head control, learning to stand up straight. Your balance (vestibular) system, eyes, and core muscles all coordinate to help you sense gravity and stay midline during all skills. If your child is not yet sitting independently, this is a great skill to work on. Righting is different than protective reactions. Righting reactions are needed constantly to keep you in midline, protective reactions are in place to protect you from a fall, which usually happens quickly! Both are important for sitting and standing upright and independently. If you already sit independently, this can be used as a guide to stretch your side muscles.
