On January 2, 2003, at Noon, KTHT flipped to a classic country format as "Country Legends 97.1". It's had the same format since (almost 20 years), which is especially amazing given how many formats the station went thru in the first decade (Classical, Mexican, Talk, a simulcast of 107.5 as both alternative KTBZ and then Oldies KLDE, and then rhythmic CHR). The timing was perfect, as a few months before 95.7 would abandon country for smooth jazz.
My dad, Tom "Tubby" Lawler, was the morning show host and APD/MD for KTHT from 2003 to 2007, and these bits of audio and photos come from his archives. He was very proud of the work he did at Country Legends, and enjoyed all of the remotes, charity events, and concerts he was involved with over the years. Please enjoy this look back at the early years of Country Legends 97.1!
