Out and Loud, Auckland Town Hall 04-Apr-2010.
This was a wonderful piece by David Hamilton, with text devised by members of GALS, and from traditional sources. It was composed for semi-chorus (SATB), SATB choir and organ.
"Me he korokoro tui" was subtitled as "the call of the tui", and is a Maori saying to describe someone who sings sweetly, or is a great orator. This piece is a mix of Maori and English, with traditional and contemporary texts blended together, and speaks of being united in song.
This video is dedicated to David Hamilton, who came up with a wonderful and memorable piece for this festival. Thank you David, and also thanks to GALS for sharing New Zealand's culture with us - and introducing us to a wonderful songbird!
