A communal clash broke out in Himmatnagar in Gujarat’s Sabarkantha district on Monday night. This comes a day after a similar fight erupted in the area on Sunday on the occasion of the Hindu festival of Ram Navami.
A large deployment of security forces was stationed in Himmatnagar after Sunday’s incident, but the clash broke out on Monday nonetheless.
During the clash between two communities on Monday night, petrol bombs were used. The police resorted to lathi charge to disperse the crowd. Over 1,000 police personnel were present at the spot. The situation was tense but under control. A police investigation into the clash is underway. Gujarat home minister Harsh Sanghavi will visit the region on Tuesday.
“We received information that stone-pelting happened during Iftar. We reached the spot and controlled the situation using tear gas. Rounded-off 10 anti-social elements and lodged FIR. Probe on,” said Superintendent of Police Vishal Vaghela.
