Take a step back in time and escape to Colonia. Founded in 1860 on the Rio de la Plata, Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay is a totally chill and gorgeous pueblo brimming with painterly, old, low-rise colonial architecture. Go! You must go.
Take the ferry. It's only an hour's trip from the city of Buenos Aires to Colonia del Sacramento and it's pretty much stress-free. Wear trekking sandals or sneakers because it's cobblestone central and it's sometimes hilly.
Fill your belly at eateries which focus on freshness, creativity, and serving up nearly flawless grub.
THE most perfect cold-brew and double chocolate crispy/gooey cookies are only at Albertine Pan y Cafe. If you are looking for lunch- definitely try the egg salad sandwich.
Ask to meet Archimedes. He's the best.
Sumptuous fusion sushi at crazy-delicious Sio Sushi is not to be missed either. Order lemonade, truffled tuna, and dig in to a Japanese Flan. Reservations are a must.
Handmade ceramics and fiber arts can be found at Agus Artesanias and at Cosas Bellas.
And listen, do not miss the fabulous mime at the citadel who is waiting to bring you joy and laughter. His outfits are pretty rad too!
Anyway, DO go to Colonia. Our experience was terrific! The service- helpful and vibes friendly. The water's edge is refreshing and rocky, and this charming place automatically sets you in relaxed mode.
