The Rhine embankment promenade is one of the most beautiful places in Düsseldorf. In warm summer weather, thousands of people stroll along the Rhine, sit at the Kasematten, on the stairs on Burgplatz or sunbath on the meadow next to the Apollo Varieté Theatre.
It was not until 1995 that the Duesseldorf Rhine Promenade was inaugurated. Before there was instead of the underlying Rheinufertunnel at this point a busy main road. Today, the approximately 1.5-kilometer-long promenade serves as one of the tourist attractions par excellence. From here you can photograph landmarks such as the Rhine Tower, the state parliament, St. Lambertus Church or the Castle Tower (Schlossturm).
The direct neighborhood to the Old Town invites for a walk. And in the casemates you can enjoy the sunset.
The Rhine promenade is divided into two parts. At the top, plane trees provide shade, there are benches, and on the central strip under the trees play the Duesseldorf locals boules on the weekend.
Downstairs, you can walk right along the Rhine, book a boat trip across the river, eat and drink something. The stairs at the Castle Tower are full of sunbathing people when the weather is good. Sometimes someone has a guitar on hand or street artists perform.
