After moulting it took about 25 minutes for the Spiny Leaf Insect to completely eat its old shed exoskeleton. Eating the old exoskeleton is probably an adaption to conserve nutrients.
The rare lichen morph Spiny Leaf Insects are known as Macleay Spectres. After they moult they are a greenish colour for a few days then they gradually change to the lighter colour to mimic lichen.
