I go out to my local woodland to see if I can create a glowing mushroom photograph.
Using my Nikon Z5 with the Nikon 40mm f2 lens attached I get the camera set up as low to the ground as possible looking up underneath the mushroom. Using Iso50 f13 and a 5 second shutter speed I take 4 images using the torch on my phone to illuminate the top of the mushroom, carefully making sure it is not in the shot.
I then take 5 images carefully moving the focus point from the back of the mushroom to the front of the mushroom and parts of the foreground so that when I focus merge the images I will have every part of the subject in sharp locus.
I use affinity photo to stack the 4 light painting images and export them as a jpeg.
I use affinity photo to focus merge the 5 images of the mushroom and export them as a jpeg.
Using affinity photo I then reimported those 2 jpeg images, stack them and export that image.
I import that image into Lightroom mobile and using a radial gradient mask on the underside of the mushroom I do very minor edits to my taste.
I then apply 2 linear masks, one for the foreground and one for the background and edit to my taste.
And export the final image, job done.
If you own a Nikon Z camera you could do all of this within the camera using the multiple exposure function.
