Our Blue Apatite tumble takes quite the journey from mine to gallery. It starts in the ground at our quarry, where it's a sea-green color and brittle. Because the raw material is too crumbly to carve, we heat it with our specialized technique using hot gas (rather than flame, which gives inconsistent results), which turns it blue. Then we crush it to the right size for tumble, put it in the tumbler, and sorted. It's then polished to a perfect shine!
