Our ecology producer and his family travel to The Nature Conservancy's Apalachicola Bluffs and Ravines Preserve to hike the Garden of Eden Trail. The Garden of Eden is considered one of Florida's most difficult and rewarding trails. It crosses two sections of a steephead ravine, a geologically and biologically unique land feature. As the name implies, its slopes are steep, and provide a little bit of a workout.
Rob and his family arrived at the beginning of the prescribed fire season, and hike along a freshly burned section of sandhills habitat. In the sandhills and in the ravine, they find a wealth of plant and animal life. Finally, they emerge atop Alum Bluff, the highest river bluff in Florida. From there, they take in the Apalachicola River.
