Our artist in residence Nelson Goerner sends you his dearest greetings from the intimacy of his living room in Geneva. He has prepared two small recitals from home. You can discover the first one today and the second one on Monday 13 April. For both recitals he chose Chopin because he is convinced that we are in need, more than ever, of romantic works. ❤️

Again and again, Chopin's passionate music touches our hearts. This is because Chopin puts his deepest emotions in his music, like in his Barcarolle or his Ballades. Each of these emotional and virtuoso piano works tells us something about Chopin's life without him ever putting it into words. Was the Barcarolle from 1846 inspired by the disillusionment with an unfulfilled promise by writer George Sand to go to Venice with him that year? Or did the decorated boats and gondolas on the Seine inspire him during the festive commemoration in Paris of the capture of La Bastille on 14 July 1789? Also his four Ballades could be nostalgic reminders of his native Poland, to which he never returned. Chopin's sources of inspiration will forever remain a mystery, just as we will forever be fascinated by his extraordinary music.

From their home to yours. With ‘Flagey chez soi’ we want to continue to share the joy of music on our feeds during this uncertain time. We asked some musicians who are very close to us, to tell you how they are coping with this crisis and to record a piece of music for you. We look forward to welcoming you back to Flagey when we reopen. Until then, enjoy the music and take care! #quarantinecontent
