Hi Boys and Girls.
What do you think travels along a canal? It's canal boat!
Have you seen a canal boat before? They are long and narrow.
Here comes a GREEN canal boat. It is approaching the large TOP GATE of a LOCK.
A LOCK is like a LIFT for Canal Boats, it helps the boats go UP and DOWN to move along the canal.
A man sits on the top gate.
And with the help of another man, they SWING open both sides.
The boat putts into the lock.
PUTT PUTT PUTT!
The lady is being very careful, steering into the lock chamber.
The man closes the LEFT, and then the RIGHT side of the top gate.
He locks it tight.
The boat is now in the lock CHAMBER.
He begins to unlock the BOTTOM gate, opening the gate just a bit.
The water begins to RUSH out! It's very loud isn't it?
BACK in the lock chamber, the boat has gone down a long way.
Look how LOW it is now!
The man opens the BOTTOM gate.
And out comes the green Canal Boat onto the LOWER canal. "Ah Hoy there, lovely boating weather!"
Making sure they don't forget to close the gate behind them,
the green canal boat motors away, and continues on it's journey along the canal.
PUTT PUTT PUTT!
Wow - that was exciting!
