Winner of the MIFF Age Critic's Award, Jennifer Kent's (The Babadook) THE NIGHTINGALE is "courageous", "visionary", "confronting" and "demands to be seen".
In Tasmania in 1825, Clare, a 21-year-old Irish convict (Aisling Franciosi), is brutally raped and witnesses the murder of her husband and baby by Hawkins (Sam Claflin), a British officer, and his cronies. Unable to find justice, she takes Billy (Baykali Ganambarr), an Aboriginal tracker, with her through the hellish wilderness to seek revenge on the soldiers, and gets much more than she bargained for.
THE NIGHTINGALE opens 29 August at Cinema Nova
