Efforts to clean up and mitigate the spill of residual oil from the OS 35 have continued throughout the day.
The government says a special collagen material with absorbent fibres has been deployed inside the boom surrounding the vessel. This is a trial to determine how it helps to stem the flow of further oil beyond the boom. It adds, initial results are positive.
The Department of the Environment also strongly advise all fishing activity should be suspended until further notice and the public should refrain from consuming locally caught seafood at this time.
