Despite the single failed in the European charts, Tom Cat became one of Gilla’s signature hit in the Soviet Union and later in all post-Soviet countries, along with her “Johnny” [ Ссылка ]
Gilla was singing in her father's band Niki Wuchinger. Then she studied music in Salzburg and became a vocalist in the band known as Seventy-Five Music. Then she signed a contract with Frank Farian, bringing several songs into the German and Austrian pop-charts in mid-1970s.
With her smoky voice, she released successful singles like “Willst du mit mir schlafen gehn” (German version of „Voulez-vous coucher avec moi” (Lady Marmalade) and “Tu es”.
In 1978 she released a German version of famous Boney M’s “Rasputin” [ Ссылка ]
Boney M was also produced by Farian at the time.
After Gilla gave a birth to her daughter, she decided to finish her music career. Her husband Helmut Rulofs has released quite a few songs under the pseudonym Chris Denning and worked for Frank Farian.
Under the pseudonym G. Winger, Gilla wrote “I See A Boat on the River” – one of the most famous Boney M’s songs.
