Dahlias need support and not just some friends to admire them.
Because dahlias can be tall (anywhere from a foot or so all the way up to several feet) and can get top-heavy with large blooms, they need some kind of system to keep them upright. I prefer to use a stake.
You can carefully place the stake when you plant your bulbs, or you can do what I'm going to do and use stakes outside the clump area.
