3.2.2 On Input
This success criterion benefits users with visual disabilities and keyboard-only users, who are impacted mainly by unexpected context changes when inputting information into a form field.
Change in context means opening a new window, moving focus to different components automatically, or rearranging the content of a page.
According to the On Input success criterion, when a user inputs information in a form control, there should be no change in context.
For example, a visually disabled user fills up a form online, and with one of the inputs, a new window pops up. This behavior should be announced to the user in advance to minimize confusion.
Common failures of 3.2.2 On Input success criteria:
When the last field of the form is given a value, it automatically submits and presents new content. As a result, it will confuse the screen reader users. So, ensure that the form submission happens only when an event is triggered (such as Submit, Continue button).
A new window is launched automatically when a radio button is selected, a check box is checked, or an option is selected from the combo box without a prior warning.
