“We are determined to defend ourselves.”
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Hamas of being an obstacle in the negotiation talks for a ceasefire deal during a cabinet meeting on Sunday, and called for more pressure on Hamas and its new leader Yahya Sinwar ahead of new rounds of talks this week.
Ahmad Abdulhadi, a Hamas representative in Lebanon said that Hamas had accepted US President Joe Biden’s previous proposal and added: “Netanyahu has added more conditions and made it more complicated”.
Osama Hamdan, a Hamas official, had told AFP the movement would’ve been willing to participate in the latest round of talks in Doha the previous week if they were to “set a timetable for implementation” of the proposal Hamas had previously agreed to.
Earlier in May, Hamas had accepted a ceasefire proposal and hostages deal mediated by Qatar and Egypt, two days later the Israeli government launched its invasion of Rafah.
