In the early 1900s the German made Luger pistol was marketed to civilians in the US. This pistol became popular and was sought out by the US military. The US military had held trials, but they did not adopt it. They even tried a 45 ACP version. Though the US military did not adopt the Luger it was still a popular pistol for civilian use. Examples like this model 1900 that would have been  imported into the US and bought by civilians. Throughout the years, Lugers have been extremely popular with collectors and this specific American Eagle marked luger is a fine example.
