Winnebago Industries introduced its newest contribution to outdoor recreation with the concept e-RV. Winnebago is calling it the first all-electric, zero-emission motorhome from a major RV manufacturer.
Winnebago revealed the concept vehicle at the Florida RV SuperShow in Tampa, Florida in January.
This fully functional, all-electric and zero-emission concept vehicle comes from Winnebago’s Advanced Technology Group. It includes an advanced drivetrain and battery package that powers the living area systems of the coach.
It is equipped with an 86-kWh (kilowatt-hour) battery configuration that allows a range of 125 miles while powering onboard systems. The charging time for the battery is approximately 45 minutes at high-current charging systems.
The concept vehicle’s chassis is based on the internal combustion engine-powered Ford Transit platform. Winnebago collaborated with Lightning eMotors and the electrification shop from Colorado modified the Ford Transit with an advanced electrical power system. This powers the vehicle controls, drivetrain and living quarters.
The e-RV features a comprehensive control system that optimizes electrical load and efficiency and shows system information and controls on a digital display. Users can monitor the control systems through a tablet or smartphone app.
Wireless connectivity is through a residential grade wi-fi network with a dual-modem system.
Winnebago selected materials throughout the e-RV concept with eco-friendly and sustainable options in mind. Examples include woolen wall appliques and recycled cork-rubber flooring for thermal and wall insulation.
Winnebago did not provide price estimates or an availability date.
