A dirt biking accident along the Oregon Coast last summer left a young woman paralyzed. Three months later, she is back to walking again.
22-year-old Marin Mertz still doesn’t have all of her balance, but she’s making great progress after she crashed her dirt bike on the dunes near Coos Bay over the Fourth of July weekend. She was rushed to a nearby hospital before she was taken by life flight to OHSU in Portland, where her surgeon performed surgery on her spine for more than three hours.
Doctor W.H. Andrew Ryu said that only 5-10% of patients are able to walk again from this type of surgery.
